What Is an Title Loan?

A title loan — also called a car title loan, auto title loan, or title-secured loan — allows you to borrow money using your vehicle’s title as collateral, without giving up use of your car.

In Utah, our title loans are short-term loans with terms of less than 12 months, giving you a quick way to access funds when you need it.

A title loan can be used in a variety of ways, such as for car repairs, medical bills, or other unexpected expenses.

What Are the Benefits of a Title Loan?

A title loan lets you access funds quickly using the value of a vehicle you already own — often with more flexible qualifying requirements than other loan options.

Title loans are especially helpful for unexpected expenses.

If your car or truck needs repairs, or another expense comes up, a title loan can help provide the funds you need, fast.

What Are the Title Loan Requirements?

To get a title loan, you must own your vehicle outright with no other lienholders, and it must have valid insurance. Your loan amount will not exceed the fair market value of your vehicle, and you must qualify based on your ability to repay the loan (terms range from 61 days-364 days with a maximum APR of 35.99%). How Can You Use a Vehicle as Collateral?
1. For typical applicants in Utah, title loan offers feature short-term quotes with terms of less than 12 months. [PLACEHOLDER: insert a current representative loan amount / APR / monthly payment example once Compliance and Pricing confirm the Utah rate and fee schedule — do not reuse the Auto-Secured Loan page’s 12–60 month example, as it does not reflect Utah’s short-term title loan terms.] Rates, fees, and maximum loan amounts are based on the fair market value of your vehicle and your creditworthiness; your loan amount will not exceed your vehicle’s fair market value. All loans are subject to approval, including an assessment of your ability to repay, under standard underwriting criteria. Not all consumers will qualify. Title loan applications and closings must be completed with a branch employee, and not on our website. A complete schedule of interest and fees charged on Utah title loans, stated as both dollar amounts and Annual Percentage Rates, is posted at each Utah branch as required by the Utah Title Lending Registration Act (Utah Code Title 7, Chapter 24). Questions or complaints may be directed to the Utah Department of Financial Institutions at (801) 538-8830.1. For typical applicants, loan offers feature quotes for loans with terms of 12 to 60 months. As an example, if you borrowed $7,000 with a 30.04% Annual Percentage Rate (“APR”) and a 60-month term, your payments would be $226.47 per month. This example is based on an average customer with good credit. APRs will not exceed 35.99%. Loan terms (e.g., rates, origination fees and max. loan amounts) apply based on your state of residence and may vary depending on your creditworthiness. Optional voluntary products are available for purchase with any secured loan extended, based on qualifying factors. Not all consumers will qualify. Additionally, not all consumers will be eligible to apply for an online unsecured loan through Republic Finance’s website. Secured loan applications and closings must be completed with a branch employee, and not on our website. Secured loans will have collateral and insurance requirements. The purchase of any required insurance from Republic Finance is optional. Auto-secured loans require a first lien on a vehicle that is titled in your name, and which has valid insurance. Current customers: some current customers may not be eligible for a loan refinance. All refinance applications and closings must be completed with a branch employee, and not on our website.

 2. If you qualify for electronic funding, funds will be deposited in your bank account within 1–2 business days
